A standing ovation goes out to all of our loyal patrons who participated in our 50/50 raffles before each show. Due to your generosity, Lemon Bay Playhouse was able to award $3,000 scholarships to three very deserving Lemon Bay High School seniors at their Senior Awards Night on May 7. The three senior student award winners are Alexis Zarifis, Kyra Mead, and Evan Weinfeld.

Alexis is a 7 Star National Honor Thespian who earned Superior ratings in Vocal Soloist and Duet Acting Performance at a recent State Competition. She is also a talented songwriter, guitarist, and pianist, and is a member of her church’s Praise and Worship Band.  Alexis also won a Distinguished Service Award for her student volunteering efforts. She plans to pursue a Bachelor Fine Arts degree in musical theatre at American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City.

Kyra is a talented graphic artist who designed numerous performance posters for performing arts groups at Lemon Bay High School. She is also a member of the Environmental Club, earned a Varsity Letter for the Swim/Dive Team and earned a Student Community Volunteer award for her work with Englewood Animal Rescue Sanctuary (E.A.R.S.). Kyra plans to earn a degree in Graphic Art and Design at the Ringling College of Art and Design.

Evan was very active in the music program at Lemon Bay High School earning Varsity Letters with the Marching Band all four years. He was also a 4-year member of the Symphonic and Jazz Bands and was a “pit musician” in two of the LBHS Theater Department’s musicals. Evan has volunteered for four years as a music tutor mentoring young musicians at L.A. Ainger Middle School. Evan hopes to attend Stetson University in the fall, majoring in business while continuing his passion for music with a minor degree.

Pictured below (left to right) are Alexis Zarifis, Evan Weinfeld, and Kyra Mead recipients of the LBP scholarships. We congratulate these three students as they continue to follow their dreams in higher education.

Lemon Bay High School Seniors can apply for these scholarships by submitting an application (found on our website), a statement of 300 words or less about their goals, and at least two letters of recommendation to our Scholarship Committee. Students do not have to be planning a career in the performing arts alone, but must reference their current and past involvement. Use the link below for more details.
