Dory and her mother, Margaret, live together in a mobile home in Abilene, Texas. One particular morning, Margaret awakes early with the overwhelming need to bake an apple pie. When the noise wakes up Dory, she joins her mother, and together, they assemble the pie and chat. The conversation starts out innocently enough, but it soon becomes clear that Margaret is attempting to tie up loose ends and puts Dory’s life in better order before she departs this world.
